October 17, 2016. Chicago Math and Science Academy (CMSA) was established as a tuition-free college preparatory school in Chicago in 2004. CMSA’s first principal was Salim Ucan and the school’s first location was at 1705 W Lunt Ave. CMSA began offering high quality education to 6th through 8th graders and then added one grade level every year. CMSA became a 6th-12th grade school in 2008 with 600 students.

In  2009, CMSA moved to its current location, 7212 N Clark Street, which used to be the location of a mall in the Rogers Park neighborhood.

CMSA is one of Chicago’s most successful public charters schools in Illionis. In 2008, CMSA was selected as the top non-selective high school in Chicago and in 2009, CMSA was named as one the promising schools in Illinois.

Beginning in 2013, CMSA has earned a ranking of either Level 1 or Level 1+ (2014, 2015) by Chicago Public Schools (CPS) based on their School Quality Rating Policy (SQRP) report. The report establishes the indicators of school performance and growth and the benchmarks against which a school’s success is evaluated on an annual basis. The SQRP report is based on school performance metrics such as PSAE /ACT scores, student growth in math and reading, drop-out rate, and attendance rate. This rating places CMSA amongst the highest performing public schools, both charter and district, in Chicago. CMSA’s School Quality Report by CPS is attached and can be found on www.cps.edu.

In addition, we have been honored with the listing by U.S. News & World Report’s one of the top high schools in the nation. In 2015 we received a Bronze ranking and in 2016 we received a Silver ranking. Chicago Magazine’s September 2016 issue rated schools in the area and listed CMSA as one of the top 3 charter schools in the city.
