Chicago Math and Science Academy (CMSA) was established as a tuition-free college preparatory school in Chicago in 2004. CMSA’s first principal was Salim Ucan and the school’s first location was at 1705 W Lunt Ave. CMSA began offering high quality education to 6th through 8th graders and then one grade was added every year. CMSA became a 6th-12th grade school in 2008 with 600 students.
In 2009, CMSA moved to its current location, 7212 N Clark Street, which used to be the location of a mall in the Rogers Park neighborhood.
CMSA became one Chicago’s most successful schools a few years after it was founded. In 2008, CMSA was selected as the top non-selective high school in Chicago and in 2009, CMSA was named as one the promising schools in Illinois.
