Community
Chicago Math and Science Academy serves the educational needs of Chicago’s north side. Located in one of the state’s crowded areas, the school enjoys a diversified economic base. Currently, the school utilizes a 6-12 grade-level configuration. The student body is culturally diverse with a population that is 54% Hispanic/Latino, 28% African-American, 2% White, 13% Asian and 3% Multiracial.

School
Chicago Math and Science Academy is a comprehensive three-year public middle school and four-year high school enrolling 600 students in grades 6 through 12. CMSA is a public charter school under Chicago Public School System and holds membership in the College Board. Since 2004, our mission has been to prepare students for college by creating an effective learning community with high expectations and a rigorous curriculum focused on math, science and technology. We are particularly proud of the fact that our students have achieve 100% graduation rate, and 100% college acceptance for the last two years. Our college retention rate for alumni is 86%, which is the highest in Chicago.

Curriculum
The academic program is organized on an eight back to back periods. Eight (8) credits per year is the maximum course load; students take eight 45 minute classes.
Advanced Placement Program courses are offered in Calculus, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Art, US History, Literature, and Language. AP is an open-enrollment program.

GPA Calculation
GPA is computed using this chart. Beginning with 9th grade, all subjects, whether passed or failed, are included in the computation. A minimum of 27 credits is required for graduation. In addition to the required 27 credits, each student must complete 40 hours community service graduation requirement. AP classes are weighted by one point. Grades are recorded on the transcript and point average is computed in June.

CMSA requires 4 years English, 4 years Mathematics, 3 years Science, 3 years Social Studies, 2 years Foreign Language(the same language), 1 year Fine Arts, 1 year Physical Education/Health, 1 year Computer Technology and 8 other electives.

After School Activities
CMSA offers a variety of sports and clubs. Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball, Flag Football, Wrestling, and Cross Country are offered. The clubs that students may participate are Band, Choir, Cooking Club, Public Action, Book, Debate and Spoken Word, International, Landscaping, Woodshop, Turkish, Running, Lego, FTC Robotics, Dancing, Photography, Newspaper, Math, Chess and Student Council/ Yearbook.
